Volunteer Centre West Berkshire
Based in Newbury, Volunteer Centre West Berkshire has been around since 1974 delivering both Newbury centric and West Berkshire wide services.
This small charity is a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) which affords trustees similar protection of a limited liability company and is an accredited volunteer recruitment organisation providing free impartial information, advice and guidance about how when and where people can volunteer.
In addition, the charity operates transport services within the town, Newbury Shopmobility and supports the voluntary sector as the local Council for Voluntary Service (CVS).
The organisation is governed by a board of trustees and they are now seeking to strengthen the team with the addition of trustees with backgrounds in HR, business, the voluntary sector, fundraising or legal.
It is a very friendly team, there is a dedicated but small team of remunerated staff and a huge body of long serving volunteers that administer the charity's services.
Volunteer Centre West Berkshire is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, formed in 1974. Our well respected charity reached its 50th anniversary in 2024. The organisation's overriding ethos is to match local people to local need. We provide information, advice and guidance and personally match people to one of more than 300 volunteering opportunities in West Berkshire.
We also provide help and information to charitable organisations in West Berkshire, whether helping start a new charity or providing assistance with fundraising, training and governance. As well as run local schemes providing help for socially isolated and the elderly.
Our aims
- To promote volunteering opportunities to all members of the West Berkshire community irrespective of their age, gender, ethnicity, ability, race, sexuality or means.
- To work in partnership and harmony with any voluntary, charitable, community, statutory or business group for the benefit of West Berkshire people and the West Berkshire environment.
- To advocate the rights and responsibilities of volunteers.
- To accurately match the time and skills of people to the most appropriate opportunity for them.
- To continue to provide a Handybus, Shopmobility and Community Car service or other such services for people with mobility difficulties to residents of and visitors to Newbury.
- To continue to provide opportunities for the personal and professional development of staff and volunteers.
This is a flexible role available on various days/times.
Trustees meet quarterly during weekday afternoons usually on Thursdays for around two hours maximum. Trustees will offer guidance and expertise and become involved in other projects on an adhoc basis.
