Fundraising Volunteer

Newbury Samaritans

Fundraising for the Samaritans is an important part of how we keep the service running. Can you help us to make that difference?

STREET COLLECTIONS

Most of our funds come from what we call 'Street Collections'. We have volunteers at several locations in Newbury twice a year and these need to be organised. These are fun events and are well supported by support volunteers. The council and Newbury Racecourse need to be contacted to make arrangements.

The July collection is further supported by a raffle and prizes need to be secured. After all the collections, the money is counted and banked.

PUB/CAFE COLLECTION TUBS

Currently one collection tub in the Lion pub opposite the branch but we could look to enlarge this approach.

Volunteering will be from home with sometime at meetings in branch and at fundraising events. Newbury branch is in the centre of Newbury on the corner of West Street opposite the Lion pub.

About Newbury Samaritans

As part of the national Samaritans organisation, Newbury Samaritans is dedicated to providing confidential emotional support to individuals experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those that may lead to suicide. Whether by telephone, chat, email, or our outreach programme, our trained volunteers offer a safe space for people to talk about their feelings and concerns, helping to alleviate emotional distress with the ultimate aim of reducing the incidence of suicide.

What skills do I need?

We are looking for a bubbly fun person with lots of ideas about how we can fundraise. Good organisation skills would be helpful, with a can do approach. You will be part of a team that really cares about what we do and you will be supported to make the most of this opportunity.
