Volunteer Office Assistants

Thatcham Volunteer Bureau is a registered charity providing transport by our team of volunteer drivers for people in the Thatcham area without access to their own transport to visit doctors, hospitals, dentists, shops and for social reasons.

Our office in Thatcham is open from 10am to 12 noon on Mondays to Fridays. Our volunteer admin assistants take client bookings over the phone from the public and contact our team of drivers by phone or text to arrange transport for a particular trip.

We normally have at least 2 admin assistants in the office. We need additional help on one or more mornings during the week especailly on Mondays and Tuesdays. We are a friendly office and the position would appeal to anyone who would like to spend a couple of hours on one or more mornings during the week helping mostly elderly people to receive medical help and enjoy life more.

About Thatcham Volunteer Bureau

We operate a community transport scheme organising lifts among our volunteer drivers for medical, social and shopping purposes. We ask for a contribution from our passengers to help cover our costs. People generally phone the office with details of what they need, and the office staff contact the drivers to arrange transport. Most drivers drive their own vehicles, some also drive the Bureau's Chairman Car, which is specially adapted to take a wheelchair and occupant if necessary. Drivers are paid mileage rates set by Government and can claim other reasonable expenses. Everyone connected with the Bureau is a volunteer. There are also some fundraising events, this year the Thatcham Fun Day raffle and the Christmas Lights burger stall, and there other jobs generally involving paperwork, such as statistical returns and reports and claiming grants where available, which are shared around as much as possible.

What skills do I need?

Experience in general office admin including taking and making phone calls and an ability to get on with people generally
