Local news writers and broadcasters

Kennet Radio

A community radio station is looking for keen volunteers to write local news stories for its website.

If you are interested in local radio and in news impacting West Berkshire communities, this could be a great opportunity for you.

Training will be given and there are existing sources for news which can be used.

As well as the chance to write new stories and learn how to operate the radio station website, is also the opportunity to broadcast on air, record stories and present shows.

This is a fun role which will entail paying a small subscription to use all the Kennet Radio equipment and be part of an amazing local team.

This role can be largely achieved at home, but there is the opportunity to use the Kennet Radio studio facilities in Broadway House, The Broadway, Newbury.

Broadway House is located at the northern end of Northbrook Street near the Clock Tower, opposite Domino’s Pizza.

About Kennet Radio

We are Kennet Community Radio, the Local Sound of Newbury and Thatcham. We broadcast to a potential 67,000 listeners across the Newbury and Thatcham area on 106.7 FM, via our smartphone app, and via our website, from our studios in the centre of Newbury.

Formed in October 2012 as a not-for-profit voluntary organisation following a fantastic response to our initial public meeting in September, we have been broadcasting online since October 2012 and on FM since March 2018.

We are not-for-profit, we are run by volunteers, and we rely primarily on donations and sponsorship from kind and generous supporters such as Greenham Trust.

What skills do I need?

Good writing skills are needed. Ability to operate common software tools such as Wordpress is helpful, but training can be given. Some local knowledge of the West Berkshire area is useful. A sense of being part of the local community and a wish to share interesting local stories is key.

When is this role available?

This is a flexible role available on various days/times.
