Legal Advisor

FLAG DV are looking for a fully qualified solicitor, legal executive or barrister from any discipline, to provide legal advice on family law to victims of domestic violence and abuse. They must me familiar with family law and accept legal aid.

Full training on the reporting system that we use will be provided and you will have full support and will have access to a directory of other agencies.

Free legal advice will be provided through FLAG DV's free legal advice surgery which is now being held over the phone because of social distancing requirements.

About Flag DV

Flag DV provide victims of domestic abuse a free legal advice appointment to enable them to make informed decisions to empower them to leave the abuse safely. These are facilitated by family law solicitors who offer their time as pro-bono services. This service is for anyone experiencing domestic abuse in Thames Valley and Hampshire over the age of 18 regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race or religion.

Charity aims - For people who experience domestic abuse to have access to high quality legal advice so that they are empowered to
o Make informed choices through knowledge of their legal rights
o Have a better understanding of access to justice
o Make informed choices to protect themselves, their children and their property

Our client outcomes are measured under four criteria; improved understanding of legal rights, improved health and wellbeing, improved feeling of safety for victims, their children and property and increased understanding of how to access further legal support.

What skills do I need?

Fully/semi qualified solicitors, legal executive or barrister. Volunteers need to be empathetic and have good communication skills. Volunteers will be open-minded and non judgmental and will enjoy helping others.

When is this role available?

This is a flexible role available on various days/times.

Details

The minimum commitment is three surgeries per year. Each surgery will include up to 5 appointments of 30 minutes each plus 30 minutes admin, totaling 3 hours of volunteering per surgery. Clinic dates are arranged around your availability.
