Wilder Schools Engagement Volunteer

We are looking for dedicated volunteers to help support our exciting new Wilder Schools Programme! Our aim is to increase biodiversity in primary schools and inspire nature connections, whilst also empowering educators to be confident teaching outdoors. 

Duties include welcoming and supporting participants, helping to create an inclusive, positive and engaging environment for all ages and abilities. You will also be assisting in the preparation and/or delivery of engaging nature-based activities for children and providing practical support during activities such as walks, workshops, seasonal events, and community engagement activities.

You will need to ensure that all health and safety obligations are met in all aspects of the role and help monitor participant wellbeing and report any concerns, incidents, or safeguarding issues to the appropriate staff member. You will also be expected to undertake relevant training and attend meetings and briefings, as agreed to support personal development and effective volunteering in the role.

In addition to an informal face-to-face interview, two character references are required, plus a DBS check with child barring.

The Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust (BBOWT) is one of 46 Wildlife Trusts working across the UK. Since 1959 we have worked with local people to make Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire rich in wildlife and protect special places for generations to come. Our team of 150 staff is supported by 1,800 volunteers, who work together to help nature's recovery. We are governed by our Board of Trustees, who oversee the governance and strategic leadership of the Trust. We receive no core governmental funding: our work is made possible by the generosity of our members and other supporters.

What skills do I need?

No experience or qualifications needed other than an enthusiasm for sharing our mission and a willingness to learn more about wildlife. 

This is a very social role, so an interest in working with children is required.
