West Berkshire Council - Physical Activities
Improve your health and well-being whilst enjoying some of West Berkshire's beautiful countryside.
As a volunteer walk leader, you would be helping people in your community to get active and healthy, providing vital support that they otherwise might not get. As well as ensuring walks are friendly, safe and well run, walk leaders are also our ambassadors for walking, their scheme and Wellbeing Walks - showing people that walking really can make a big difference to their lives. We encourage all potential walk leaders to attend walks as a walker and walk leader shadowing, before becoming a leader in order to gain confidenceĀ in the role.
The walks are timetabled and take place across West Berkshire, including Newbury Town Centre - routes vary in length and pace, from half an hour to an hour or. Routes are already planned, but ideas for new routes are always welcomed. The numbers of walkers vary for each route, ranging from 5 - 50 people, but larger groups will have more helpers.
The only paperwork involved is completing a register of participants and issuing new people with a registration form.
As one of our volunteers, you can develop a range of new skills. You could discover how to be a great walk leader, find out more about marketing and promotion. Or you could enhance your database or communication skills and give something back to the community.
Volunteers are valued and there are opportunities to meet others in the team of about 30 volunteers.
We couldn't do what we do without the amazing volunteers that make our health walks happen - could you be one of them?
