About Time To Talk

Time to Talk West Berkshire is an independent charity providing free mental health support to young people aged 11 to 25 who are resident, in education, training, working or registered with a GP in West Berkshire, which helps them deal with their specific challenges in a sustainable way.

Originally established in 1986 our aim as a charity is to promote the mental health and emotional wellbeing of young people aged 11-25 in West Berkshire.

We do this primarily through our free, at the point of delivery, counselling services at Broadway House and in local schools and GP surgeries.

We also develop and deliver talks, seminars and courses in schools.

Last but not least we work very closely with relevant local organisations and signpost people to other services, information and support where appropriate.

We currently have around 30 voluntary/part-paid trained counsellors and support over 400 young people in West Berkshire with over 4,000 counselling sessions.

Demand for our service continues to increase and we regularly have a waiting list of between 50-60 young people in need of our support.

What skills do I need?

Volunteers must be qualified counsellors or in the 2nd year of a Diploma Counselling Course (Level 4). Volunteers must have had a minimum of 20 hours of their own counselling, and have worked in some capacity (not necessarily counselling) with young people.

Volunteers should be positively accepting, flexible in their thought processes, have the ability to listen and accept. Have a positive attitude toward others. Warm in character. The ability to form relationships of equality.
