Toy Library Volunteer

Mortimer and Burghfield Toy Library

The volunteers will welcome families to the Toy Library and explain to new members how the library works.

The volunteer will complete necessary paperwork for the loan, collect the money and issue the toys. When toys are returned the following month the volunteer will check the toy is complete and not damaged, clean toy and amend paperwork.

At start of session toys have to be taken out from store cupboard and displayed in hall enabling families/members to browse through available toys. At end of session toys have to be returned to store cupboard.

At present the role does not require any knowledge of computers as all loan paperwork is on paper but there are plans moving forward to digitise records.

This is a fun role helping children choose toys and chatting to families.

The Toy Library is held at Mortimer Methodist Church Hall - accessible by the Line 2 bus service. There is a car park on site.

About Mortimer and Burghfield Toy Library

We aim to provide families with opportunities to borrow a wide variety of baby, toddler and children's toys, puzzles, equipment and games at a very low cost. This will help families save money, helps children have a broader range of experiences, can save space in the home and helps reduce the harm to the environment through re-use of toys.

We open to members on the fourth Saturday of the month, excluding August and December, 9.30am - 11am.

Parents, grandparents, child minders etc can browse the toys on display and choose what they would like to borrow for a small fee. After completing the toy loan card members can keep the toys for one calendar month. Upon joining as a member address identification is necessary to complete our records.

What skills do I need?

This role is not difficult and if you like talking and helping people, it is the role for you. Some ability is required to lift and stack boxes of toys but if this proves too difficult for you we would still value your assistance, helping to greet families and making them familiar with our range of toys.

You need to enjoy talking to families, like children and enjoy discussing toys. No qualifications needed but you will need references and to undertake a DBS check.
