Support Group Facilitator

We're looking for volunteers to help facilitate a new support group in Newbury for autistic girls and non-binary young people aged 13-18 (through the Autistic Girls Network).

Sessions will be fortnightly on Fridays, 4.30pm-6pm, in Newbury.

We're looking for volunteers who are passionate about:

• Nurturing a positive autistic identity
• Helping to change the narrative around neurodiversity 
• Ensuring our young people feel seen and understood

During the sessions, you’ll spend time talking with our young people about their passionate interests, doing crafts, chatting about their lives, and ensuring the group is a place where they can be themselves and be accepted exactly as they are.

About Autistic Girls Network

Autistic Girls Network supports autistic women, girls, non-binary people and their families by providing education, resources and community, helping them develop a positive sense of self.

What skills do I need?

• An interest in and ability to relate to young people
• Good listening and communication skills
• Patience, flexibility and a willingness to persevere
• A commitment to supporting autistic young people
• Lived experience of neurodivergence
• An understanding of the likelihood of poor mental health especially in cases of late diagnosis
• If you are not neurodivergent, an understanding of the fact that others can experience the world in a different way to you
• To be a positive role model and committed to the group ethos of neuro-affirmative interactions
• To be punctual and reliable
