Hope for Tomorrow
Volunteering is a great way to build your CV and increase your employability and life skills.
Volunteering has a proven benefit to your physical and mental wellbeing, with great social opportunities offered through the roles you choose to do. This role is what you make of it, do you want to learn to run your own fundraising activities - then we can help and support you. Do you want to undertake a challenge event on your own or within your society, we have a whole host of different events to choose from throughout the year, don't see something you want to do? Tell us what you'd like to do, and we can support you in getting it off the ground.
As a student volunteer, you will help support us in a variety of different ways. This could be through hosting your own fundraiser, supporting us at a local event, attending community events on our behalf or even publicising the charity through your local University network.
This role is about building your skills and confidence and that comes by doing things you love and want to do. We sometimes have local supporters who request a charity presence at their fundraisers, if you are up for building your networks, we welcome your help in attending these in your local area.
One in two people will develop some form of cancer in their lifetime. We have made it our mission to make a difference to the way that their treatment is delivered; giving the gift of time to patients so they can spend it wisely, with those that they love. Our mobile cancer care units help patients to fit their treatment into their lives, not the other way round.
We bring our fleet of mobile cancer care units into the heart of communities, and by working closely with NHS Trusts throughout the country, we work together to help as many people as possible.
Once on board on one of our units, people receive the same exceptional care, just as they would in hospital. The big difference that our patients comment on is that there are a lot more smiles and it's a more relaxing, homely environment. In fact, because of the less clinical, stress-free environment on board the unit, the specialist nurses on board say that many patients can tolerate their treatments better.
Our units are easily accessible, they are stationed in convenient, large spaces like those in a supermarket or local doctors' car park.
Some patients tell us that they are worried it may be cramped inside and ask if the treatment is different, but as soon as they get there, they see there's nothing for them to worry about. The units are deliberately designed to accommodate four comfortable treatment chairs with ease, and the nurses on board administer the same medications that a cancer patient would receive in hospital. Our mobile cancer care units combine the friendliness and comfort that the patients want, with the standard of treatment that they require.
What will I get out of it?
This is a flexible role available on various days/times.
