New Leaf Project - Hope After Harm
Our Young Peoples' project offers a lifeline through trained volunteers who are interested in supporting vulnerable young people by engaging with them and offering them support and guidance when they need it.
Please refer to our website: www.hopeafterharm.org.uk/what-we-offer/early-intervention-programmes/
The project aims to provide the mentee with support and guidance in addressing their offending and inappropriate behaviour, and to move their life forward. The key word here is 'guidance' - at the core of our work with the mentee, we aim to build their independence.
We do not do the work for them, but we will assist them as much as they need.
Tasks undertaken by a mentor may be signposting them to other local agencies, helping with form filling, and general navigation of their community.
Volunteer mentors are asked to make a commitment to New Leaf for one year and for a minimum of two 12-week mentor/mentee relationships within this time.
Volunteering will take place locally where the young person goes to school.
Hope After Harm is a charity working in partnership with statutory, private and voluntary sectors to provide long-term sustainable solutions to problems of crime and social exclusion - 'protecting victims, supporting offenders and their families'.
New Leaf operates across the Thames Valley - Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire including Milton Keynes.
Full training and regular support are given for the role, however the attributes that are required are as below:
This is a flexible role available on various days/times.
A mentor should expect to spend approximately two hours per week (usually during the day) with their mentee.
