About Newbury u3a

Newbury u3a provides social and learning opportunities for those contemplating retirement or have retired.

We are an independent charity (No. 1097700) and we form part of a network of over 1000 u3a Groups in the UK. Our members have a wide range of skills from their worlds of work. Some contribute by putting their skills to new uses, others look for a different challenge.

* We have over 70 activity groups from "Actually Zooming Marvellous" to "Yoga". If we do not have a group for a particular subject, we can set one up if there is a leader and a following (we are looking for someone to start one beginning with Z!)

* There are also a wide range of social events ranging from Monthly Talks, Day trips, Theatre visits, Holidays and Quizzes to Social Groups eating out or simply meeting together to play Skittles, Wine Tasting, Murder Mystery events. All are advertised well in advance, sometimes at favourable prices achieved from Group bookings.

* We are a self-administered, self-help group dedicated to an ethos of making the most of the amazing talent and commitment that our members have. Friendship and sociability abounds and we follow an ethos of learn, laugh, live!

What skills do I need?

Some general understanding of web page design.  It would be useful but not essential if you had come across Wordpress (Blocks, not Classic) (we’re happy to bring you up to speed with that - we have a small team who can already do the essentials).  

Our big challenge at the moment is with a popular WordPress plugin called WPForms.  To do what we need to do requires a little bit of programming expertise (no particular language, just an understanding of the basics), and also a little HTML for formatting text.  We have already designed a successful event booking system using WordPress and WPForms, but currently only one person knows how it works.
