Newbury College & University Centre
We are seeking volunteers to join the Board of Governors for Newbury College and University Centre Newbury, to support our drive for growth and outstanding provision. Board members join us from a wide range of backgrounds, with a diverse range of skills and experience.
The governing body is the highest level of decision making in the College, having overall responsibility for the strategic direction and financial health of the institution. Governors attend meetings of the Corporation Board (five per year), participate in committees, evaluate reports, and attend events.
The Board makes a significant contribution to the success of the college, playing a key role in ensuring that all students develop and achieve their full potential. The role provides insight into the social and economic needs of our community, offering opportunities for direct contact with senior people in a wide range of local businesses and community groups.
Governors are not remunerated for their role, although travel and expenses may sometimes be claimed. The Board is particularly interested in seeking new members with skills in any of these areas:

Newbury College is committed to high quality learning opportunities for individuals and employers in West Berkshire, and the surrounding areas.
We offer around 1,000 full- and part-time courses from our purpose-built campus on Monks Lane and across other community venues in West Berkshire. The full-time courses cover a range of vocational subjects from Entry up to HND, Foundation Degree and Degree Apprenticeship Level. Students from the age of 14 can study on our Pre-GCSE and GCSE programmes. As well as various Maths and English courses, we offer adults the opportunity to study on many leisure or professional programmes.
Alongside these mainstream pathways, Newbury College also specialises in the support of learners with both physical and mental needs. Our overall mantra is careers not courses, and this includes supporting all learners into independent living or employability. To achieve this, our proactive and forward thinking employer engagement team support learners at all levels and all abilities, matching them to employers and careers, leading to meaningful outcomes.
Newbury College works with employers in the local area offering a wide range of apprenticeships. By choosing Newbury College as a training provider, our Business Development Team supports your recruitment campaign and helps you find the perfect candidate to match your vacancy. Along with our experienced assessors, the team works alongside you to ensure the apprenticeship journey is a success for everyone. Apprenticeships are available for all age groups from 16 and above.
Newbury College is also skilled at developing training packages specifically for individual companies and organisations. We offer a full training-needs analysis to establish specific training requirements, and then deliver on-site training at timings to suit the needs of your business.
Our facilities are some of the best in the area. Recently this includes the addition of a new engineering solutions lab to support students working in the engineering industry. We also have a training restaurant and two beauty salons that are open to the general public. Our construction centre includes an area for bricklaying and carpentry.
