Fundraising Events Support Volunteer (Ad hoc)

About the role  

Fundraising volunteers play an essential role at Sue Ryder – raising vital funds that enable the charity to be alongside people through terminal illness, death and grief.  

In this role, you will work with your local fundraising team to help support community events in your area. Activities in the role will be varied but may include: 

• Pre-Event Preparations: Gathering raffle prizes and donations from local businesses. Making event packs, posters, signs, and letters.  
• On-the-Day Support: Setting up and packing away event stalls, gazebos, and tables. Helping with registration, guiding people, and answering questions.  
• Community Engagement: Promoting events on social media and in the local news. Helping identify local businesses, schools, community groups and organisations that may be interested in supporting Sue Ryder.

About Sue Ryder

Sue Ryder is here to make sure that everyone approaching the end-of-life or living with grief can access the support they need. We can't make life's most difficult moments easy, but we can carry some of the load. Dying and grief are universal experiences, but too many people face them alone. We are a safe and reassuring hand you can reach for. From providing care and support for someone at the end of their life to helping someone manage their grief, we know there is no one size fits all when it comes to how we cope and the help we need. We provide end-of-life care and support from our specialist centres and in people's homes, aiming to help people live as well as possible with the effects of their conditions by offering care, symptom management and support from a multi-professional team both in the hospice and the community.

Every year, the time, effort and skills of over 7,000 volunteers helps make it possible for Sue Ryder to deliver expert, compassionate care. Volunteers play vital roles across all areas of the organisation and are an essential part of everything we do, whether as dedicated befrienders, gardeners or receptionists in our healthcare centres, as brilliant event organisers and fundraisers or as much-valued members of our retail teams.

Our services cover West Berkshire from two sites: Duchess of Kent Hospice in Reading and Palliative Care Hub Berkshire in Newbury. We provide specialist end of life care, aiming to help people live as well as possible with the effects of their conditions by offering care, symptom management and support from a multi-professional team. Duchess of Kent Hospice is a 15-bed inpatient hospice. All beds are in private rooms overlooking our wonderful courtyard garden and all have en-suite facilities. We also offer advice and support to people in their own homes through our clinical nurse specialist teams, and day hospice care at all three sites.

What skills do I need?

How often we’d like your support: This role is highly flexible to suit your schedule, though flexibility to attend occasional evenings and weekends for specific event days is fantastic.  

What we hope you’ll bring to the role: You might not have experience of everything on this list. That’s fine; finding the right person is more important to us than ticking all the boxes.

This is a flexible role available on various days/times.

Our events take place throughout the year at various locations across the Thames Valley and may be held during evenings and weekends. We require volunteers who are 18+.
