Chatty Corner Volunteer

Educafe CIC

The Chatty Corner is a unique space in Newbury Library for non-native speakers. Our users are primarily displaced people and the Chatty Corner is often the first time they get any help with their English. Chatting informally away from the classroom can lead to visitors making friends, learning about their new community, culture and the organisations that can support them and their families to settle here.

Volunteering in the Chatty Corner provides an enjoyable learning opportunity to use existing skills to help non-native speaking adults build their confidence in improving their conversational English skills in an informal small group setting. You will also benefit from meeting and fostering friendships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

You will love this role if you:

  • enjoy engaging with a variety of people
  • have the patience and empathy to meet learners’ needs
  • enjoy meeting and talking to new people.
  • have the confidence to take the lead in a group.
  • have a love of the English language.
